BARBELL CLUB
Our barbell club SEATTLE WEIGHTLIFTING trains people to be stronger overall, especially in strength sports like olympic weightlifting and powerlifting.
We wanted to do things differently:
- ATHLETES WITH PROGRAMS: Join our Open Gym membership and try to lift during the same times we have Strength classes. See our calendar on PushPress.
- ATHLETES WITHOUT PROGRAMS: You should also just join via Open Gym membership, and you can get our Team Programming for an additional $30/month (alternatively do Personal Program Design with one of our coaches)
- NOVICE ATHLETES: If you’re interested in learning the basics you can join via our Class Memberships. Included with that membership is workout programming, coaching and cueing to learn technique and execution in our Strength classes.
Personal Program Design is a bespoke process where you and a coach will discuss your goals and your timeline, then come up with a solution to reach said goal. Prices may vary depending on coach.
Ready to compete? Looking for a team to train with? Need a handler for a meet?
We are an official USAW club and offer our services to anyone local.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do I get programming?
Either on our ATTN Seattle Discord server, or in person on paper.
When do I workout?
That’s dependent on your schedule, goals, and needs. We want you in classes if you can make it, otherwise Open Gym gives you more options.
How do I read the programming?
This depends on your program. Generally there are a number of frameworks that we utilize. Some variables that are controlled are sets, reps, percentages (or ratings of perceived exertion), rest time, etc.
It doesn’t specify between a power and a squat?
The assumption is that you always squat unless it says power, which means ‘partial squat’.
How do I get started with competition?
We’ll have a whole post on our blog about that though read this while you’re here. Basically you’ll need a USAW membership for Olympic Weightlifting, or USAPL for Powerlifting. Add ‘Seattle Weightlifting’ as your club, one of our coaches as your coach, then register for your competition before it sells out. These programs are specially preparing
- ‘Winter Lifting-Land 2026’ on 1/24/2026
- USAPL Woodinville ‘Rookie’ Meet on 2/17/2026
We will have a number of athletes participating in both, so we will have coaches available there to help handle you through the entire process!
Do I have to wear a singlet?
Only if you want to be competitive! The Novice divisions usually don’t require a specific dress code.
When are STRENGTH classes?
Look at the ATTN Seattle PushPress calendar to see what the current schedule is. We ask that you RSVP as soon as you know your plan so our coaching staff has time to prepare for you.
What are STRENGTH classes?
These are self-guided sessions to work on specific strength programming. A qualified coach will be available to provide feedback and cueing as needed. They’re also there to answer all the questions you may have about technique, mechanics, the program, lifestyle and nutrition, and more!
What if I can’t make class- how do I receive feedback?
If you cannot attend class simply make sure you record yourself from either profile or 3/4 view and upload it to our #strength channel so our coaches can provide feedback.
If I wanted to do the 4x+/week version how would I do that?
Do the three days as written, then either add on a squat or pull program, alternatively you could work some two-a-day sessions, splitting up the material into more manageable pieces. This way you could intentionally put in more intensity into the programming with adequate rest time between sessions. If you want some general conditioning you could also do a class or your own workout, just don’t put too much intensity in since weightlifting should be your main priority.
